Collector Edition : The King in Yellow by Robert W. Chambers

For all fans of beautiful books and classical literature, let me introduce you to this Kickstarter campaign for a magnificent reprinting of the legendary The King in Yellow by Robert W. Chambers.

This book is one of the pillars of cosmic horror, inspiring countless works and referenced in numerous games and films, from the first season of True Detective to SIGNALIS. While connoisseurs know its significance, it has never reached the same fame as Lovecraft. As a result, previous editions of these stories often suffered from questionable style or quality.

Thankfully, this campaign offers multiple carefully crafted editions.

The Codex Edition is a modern take on the classic, featuring original cover art by Seung Gue Lee. Lee brings a soft yet otherworldly touch, perfectly capturing the quiet horror of Chambers’ universe.

For fans of classic aesthetics, the Artifact Edition faithfully recreates the book’s original 1895-era look, now enhanced with beautiful hardcover binding and archival-quality paper.

As a bonus, backers can explore multiple art prints in a variety of styles, from conceptualizations of Carcosa to fictional theater posters of the haunting play.

My only critique concerns pricing: the editions are on the steep side, and the Artifact Edition is notably more expensive than the Codex Edition. It seems hard to justify paying twice as much for a faithful reproduction of the original.

Still, producing high-quality book editions in today’s market is no small feat, and I truly commend the team for bringing this legendary work back to life.
